Part 20:

 

Salem:

 

Roman and Abe rush over to Shawn and ask if he is ok. He says, “Well my dad just tried to kill me so I think under the circumstances I’m hanging in there.” Roman hugs him and asks him to tell them exactly what happened. Shawn sees Mimi come in and says to Roman, “I will but first I need to check on Mimi.”

 

Shawn goes over to Mimi as Roman and Abe talk back and forth about what could possibly have caused Bo1 to do this.

 

Shawn hugs Mimi and asks if she is okay. Mimi who is much calmer and more with it now says, “Yes I think so. I’m sorry I lost it back there. I just… I had never seen anything like that before.” Shawn says, “I know.” Mimi asks, “Is she.. Is she dead?” Shawn shakes his head saying, “I don’t know. They were working on her as they brought her in. I don’t think we will know for awhile.” Mimi says, “Has anyone called Billie?” Shawn scoffs, “Well I know I didn’t. But I’m sure the hospital has.” Mimi looks at him and says, “I know you hate her but we should make sure she knows… I mean it is her daughter.” Shawn sighs and nods, “Yeah… I know you are right.”

 

Mimi hesitates and then asks, “Why did Chelsea do that? Why did she take a bullet for you?” Shawn shakes his head saying, “I honestly have no idea. I can’t figure it out. I mean warning me I can see but to risk her life like that… It just doesn’t fit.” Mimi looks at him and asks, “And what about you? You were working to save her life like she was your best friend or something.” Shawn looks at her and says, “I want to know what she knows about my dad and why he did this.” He sighs and says, “Besides…. I may hate her with every ounce of my being for what she did to Zack… but like it or not she is my sister and she just saved our lives… I couldn’t let her die.” Mimi smiles and says, “I know. You are a good man, Shawn.” He looks a bit guilty and says, “Not all the time Mimi… I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you. I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”

 

Mimi tears up some and says, “You have no reason to be sorry, Shawn. You had every right to turn me away after what I did. I lied to you, didn’t trust you, I… I learned nothing from my mistakes with Rex… I just wanted to be with you, to have a family so badly…” She stammers trying not to cry, “I… I just held on too tight. I should have trusted you.”

We can see Shawn looks a little guilty and we get a short flashback of he and Belle’s conversation where she implies she knows he married Mimi without telling her he still has feelings for her (Belle). Back to present Mimi continues, “You don’t owe me any apologies, Shawn.” Shawn firmly says, “Yes I do Mimi.” He is about to continue when they spot Billie walk in the door. Shawn says to Mimi, “We need to talk but we should do it later…” Mimi seeing Billie too nods in agreement.

 

Roman and Abe head off Billie who is heading for Shawn to find out what happened. Billie asks Roman, “Where is Chelsea?! Is she…” Roman says, “We don’t know. We just got here.” Billie is panicked and says, “What happened?!” Roman replies, “All we know is we got a call to come here and that Bo had been involved in a shooting… that he shot his daughter.”

 

Billie gasps and says, “This has to be a mistake! Where is Bo now!?” Roman says, “He is being treated. From what the cop told me, Bo and Shawn fought for the gun and Shawn shot Bo.” Billie gasps. Shawn and Mimi walk up now and Billie lays into him saying, “How could you!? How could you shoot your own father!? And Chelsea… did you shoot her too!?” Roman jumps in before Shawn can saying, “HEY! There won’t be any accusations like that flying around! The cops said his and Mimi’s stories matched… they are NOT suspects here!” Billie snaps back with tears in her eyes, “What makes more sense Roman? We all know Shawn hates Bo and Chelsea. Bo would never do what he is saying he did!”

There is no keeping Shawn quiet now, “How dare you! Every time you show your face in this town my family gets torn apart! If anyone here is to blame for this mess it is YOU! If you hadn’t come back then my parents would still be together, Zack would be alive, and yes your precious daughter would not have been shot! Don’t you dare walk in here acting like this is your family!” Billie yells back, “It IS my family! That is my daughter and my fiancé in there with gun shots in them!” Everyone but Mimi is shocked as Roman says, “Your fiancé?” Billie says, “That’s right… Bo and I are engaged. So this IS my family and I want to know what is going on and who is responsible.”

 

Shawn glares at Billie saying, “You are a liar. My dad would not ask you to marry him… not after everything that has happened… not before the ink has even dried on the divorce papers.” Mimi says solemnly, “She’s not lying. Chelsea told me. It’s true.” She looks at Shawn and with sympathy says, “I’m sorry… I wish it wasn’t.” Shawn is flabbergasted and speechless. Roman and Abe are both also in shock. Abe is the one to finally break the silence and says, “Okay… listen. I understand emotions are running high here. We need to calm down for a moment. Billie, I agree that Bo wouldn’t do this, but Chelsea would already be dead if not for Shawn and Mimi. The officer that called us told us, they did CPR on her until the EMTs arrived.” Billie shuts up at this and looks slightly embarrassed. Abe turns to Shawn and Mimi, “Now… can you tell us exactly what happened tonight?” Shawn is still in stunned silence so Mimi starts. She fills them in on all she knows and how Chelsea asked for her help. She tells them about Patrick’s message and of course about the night’s events. Abe asks Shawn if that is how he remembers it and he says yes. He also tells him how he and Bo fought for the gun and how Bo didn’t even seem to be acting on auto pilot and did not seem like himself at all.

 

After they finish their story Abe, Roman, and Billie are all silent taking it in. Abe asks Billie if either Chelsea or Bo1 had been acting oddly lately. Billie says, “No…well… Chelsea has seemed really distracted and she didn’t seem as happy as I thought she would be about the engagement. But I just thought she was worried about the trial. And Bo… I don’t know… so much has been going on it is hard to say what is ‘normal’ any more. But he has seemed normal to me.” Shawn glares up at her, “Yeah if you call his asking you to marry him ‘normal’.” Roman gives Shawn a look that says, ‘not right now.’ And Shawn backs down.

 

Billie asks, “So what happens now?” Roman tells her, “We wait. But I’m placing a guard on Bo’s door. I don’t know what is going on but I have to treat this like any other case and that means Bo is under arrest… and if Chelsea doesn’t make it… then it will be for murder.” Billie begins to cry, and Roman reluctantly puts an arm around her in comfort.

 

Later we see them all sitting and/or pacing around the waiting area. Lexi comes in. They all rush over to her for updates. She quiets them all and says, “Bo will be fine. The bullet only grazed his arm and just needed stitches. He also suffered a minor concussion from Shawn tackling him to the ground.” Roman says, “Can we see him?” Lexi continues, “In a moment yes.” She sighs and then says, “Chelsea is still in surgery.” Billie asks frantically, “Is she going to make it!?” Lexi looks sympathetic and says, “I have to be honest with you Billie, it is to early to tell. The bullet did not exit and is dangerously close to her heart. I called in a specialist and he is in there working on her now. If anyone can save her he can. But it is going to take some time. And if she makes it through surgery the next 48 hours will be critical.” Billie is near hysterics, even Shawn looks worried and Mimi covers her mouth in shock. Lexi puts a hand on Billie’s shoulder and says, “We will do everything we can for her… I promise.” Abe puts his arm around Lexi as Billie sinks into a chair.

 

Roman calms Billie down as Abe fills Lexi in on what happened. Lexi asks if anyone has called Hope. Shawn says he did and that she is heading home. Lexi says, “Good.” Shawn gets a thoughtful look on his face and then says, “You know… my mom didn’t seem as shocked as I thought she would. I mean she was but… I dunno… something in her tone. She also said something odd. She said ‘I have to come home and when I get there you will understand why.’ I’m not sure what she meant by that.”

 

Lexi looks thoughtful for a moment and then says, “I wonder…” Abe says, “What is it?” Lexi says to the group, “Hope contacted me a couple days ago she had found some files in some facility over seas. She said it was DiMera related. She said she found information about two drugs that were used for brainwashing and for deprogramming.” Roman stands up and asks, “What are you saying? You think that this drug was used to brainwash my brother into trying to kill Shawn?” Lexi raises an eye brow and says, “No. From what the file said it is a way more complex procedure then that. It is used for transforming someone into believing they are someone else. You don’t just give it to someone for one simple act of violence like tonight.” They all look at Lexi stunned at what she has said.

 

Roman then ventures out the question they are all thinking, “So what are you getting at Lexi? Are you saying that is not my brother in there?” Lexi raises an eyebrow as everyone looks on in suspense. She says, “I have no idea. But it would explain a lot. Hope’s files described in detail how the drug is used. It was used to turn her into Gina. So we all know it is possible.” Abe looks suspicious and says, “I know what your father was capable of but this seems a bit far fetched. I mean are we REALY suggesting that this man isn’t Bo Brady?!” Lexi shrugs and says, “I don’t know. But we all can agree Bo would never attack Shawn. Either Bo was brainwashed or that isn’t Bo. Those seem the only two options to me.” Roman voices his agreement as Billie says, “No… That IS Bo. I know it is.” She looks mysteriously concerned at this conversation.

Shawn says, “And what makes you so sure?” Billie says, “Because I love him and I would know.” Shawn rolls his eyes in disgust at her but she continues, “Besides, when would he have been replaced? There is no missing time where he was unaccounted for.” Roman nods saying, “She has a point.” Lexi says, “Well there is one way to know for sure. Hope’s file had the directions for making the drugs. We can have the lab create the Release formula and see for ourselves.”

 

Roman asks, “Wait… wouldn’t a DNA test tell us if he really is my brother?” Lexi nods and says, “Yes… but on the off chance he isn’t then that won’t tell us who he really is. And it won’t undo the brainwashing either way.” She sighs, “Besides… we can’t do a DNA test on him without his consent.” Roman says, “What if we get a warrant?” Abe chimes in, “It would be a hard sell to get the judge to agree to it for these purposes but we can try. In the meantime, Lexi get the drug ready.”

 

Billie sits silently and looks more and more concerned as the group talks her eyes darting back and forth as she is deep in thought as if she is trying to figure things out. Roman asks Lexi how long it will take to make the drug, she tells them she isn’t sure but at least 24 hours. Roman says, “Get on it and in the meantime we will work to get a warrant.” Lexi says, “The same problem is going to be with this drug… it is experimental and I can’t issue it to him without his consent.” Roman sighs in frustration and says, “If he is my brother he will agree… and if he isn’t then I will give it too him myself… even if it means I end up in jail for it! Because if he isn’t Bo… then he will tell me where my brother is!”
